Outdated, unreadable.

I can't believe this book is required for my class. The page layout is nearly unreadable. The text is fantastic as long as you just need to learn which buttons to push and not why. Many of the hilighted techniques are outdated. I wish I could return it.

Had to get this book for a design class...

The content is atrocious. I guess if you are just starting out in the creative suite it could be SOMEWHAT helpful, but seriously? This book is trash. The 'designs' and labs in this book are an eyesore. Just sign up for lynda.com to learn about Ai, Ps, and iD. Seriously this book was the biggest waste of money ever, I cant believe my teacher/faculty okay'd this book for our class... If you have to get this book like me just go with the eBook, cheapest option. You will never use this book again.

Anyone skilled enough to write an instructional book should be smart enough to know how to include page numbers in the book. Though it appears to be well-written and possibly helpful, the fact that page numbers are missing is aggravating, frustrating, and unacceptable. Is this a new trend in textbooks?

In "Orchards that Measure/Pilasters that Temper," they consider the rhythmic spacing of elements in the Mosque at Cordoba, the Cathedral at Bourges, the thousand-pillared mandapas of South Indian temples, the facades of Schauspielhaus in Berlin, and the Seagram building in New York City. Each chapter (or, as they call it, "chamber") focuses on one theme, jumping between past and present, between Italian hill towns and San Francisco, between Spanish mosques and Disneyland. They discuss the Taj Mahal; the Hagia Sophia; mad Ludwig's castle, Neuschwanstein in Bavaria; the great Mosque at Cordoba; the Salk Institute in California; and an enormous number of other interesting structures, both familiar and lesser known. Illustrated throughout with deft sketches of the subjects discussed, the book is a prize for anyone fascinated by architecture. Moore, who died in 1993, was professor of architecture at the University of Texas; Lyndon is professor of architecture at UC Berkeley.

An interesting format for a discussion of design principles with beautiful pen and ink sketches. Imaginary letters written between two architects discussing well known and not so well known buildings that illustrate proportion, paths, angles and why they appeal to our eyes and hearts. Recommended by a designer whose course I took. A very pleasing book.

Good to start with

The book is good to start with, it was the first book that was required in my first class or arts (architect) 11A at UCB, it helped a lot in showing different types of drawing styles. It is a good book to start with, its just like an intro for art students.

I just don't think its the best. I read the whole book and it helped ...

I don't understand why this book is as popular as it is. Don't get me wrong though....it is still worth it. I just don't think its the best. I read the whole book and it helped me review the medicine in General. It's the excellent number of cases that works but they don't go into the detail I would like. If you have few people to practice with it is not intuitive for your "examiner" to administer. I wish they listed the doses as they went (if it is a medicine we should have memorized) and for the burn case they had they didn't even say what percentage of burn they calculated. True, this is all stuff you could look up in other books but I want to know about THAT case. The little review of high yield facts is good. I think they best book is First Aid for the oral boards and was really hoping a new edition would come out. It is the best for using with another person (especially if your examiner has less medical background). First Aid lists, over and over, exactly what you should say and goes in great detail (sometimes painfully so) for each case. I felt first aid book is ideal for initial study. This book though is an excellent addition to the First Aid book. If you have little time get First Aid, if more get BOTH. I did not try Rivers. I took the review course in Chicago Illinois ACEP; it was AMAZING. It was intense but worth it. I figure anyone reading this review is looking for oral board study material advice :)

So the book is kinda the only good resource out there for prepping for EM oral boards. It's got cases and that's good. The structure and use of the book is kinda so so. You've gotta take the content and make the most of it. I had the Kindle app version and I worked fine. Good for screenshotting stuff you want to review again later.

A book for beginners and up.

This is a book for any level of loom bead work. She explains about a lot of things with different types of bead looms and techniques. I am self taught. I simply got a loom and followed the in box directions. I learned the hard way some of the things this book explains. I also learned a better way to do some techniques. There are diagrams and pictures to help with explanations. Most are in color, diagrams are detailed. Patterns present explain best type of loom and techniques to make. This is a book to make bead looming easier to understand and do. I have the Kindle version. This means I can enlarge diagrams for better visualization.

I found this book to be very informative. I especially liked the section on adding decorative edges to bead loomed bracelets and though I am not skilled (at all) with a needle and thread I followed the directions and added a nice edge on to a bracelet I had loomed that I just wasn't quite satisfied with and the edging made the difference. Lots of good ideas to try.

What a great book! I love the way she explains everything. Even if the patterns are not exactly what you want (and why would you just copy things?) she shows you how to make it your own, just the way you want it. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow. So happy that I ordered this on Kindle, so I can take it with me when I travel

Excellent Coffee Table Collection of Camus Memorabilia

This is a coffee table book, but an interesting and valuable one for fans of Albert Camus. It contains many valuable photos and reproductions of documents. Compiled by Camus' daughter Catherine, the book has an obvious "authenticity." There's not a great dea of critical interpretation, but this is a valuable and enjoyable book for those who consider Camus one of the twentieth-century's most important philosophical voices.

An impressive collection of photographs, letters, and ephemera from the life of Albert Camus

Albert Camus and George Orwell are curiously paired. Of prominent twentieth-century literary figures, they are perhaps the two most known for political conscience and intellectual integrity. Their lives were only a decade off from being coterminous (Orwell, 1903-1950; Camus, 1913-1960). Both died at the age of forty-six. Both had tuberculosis. Orwell died from the disease, whereas Camus died in an automobile accident. Each is worth knowing -- his life, his writing, and his thought.

With regard to Camus, the book at hand, ALBERT CAMUS: SOLIDARITY & SOLITUDE, should NOT be the vehicle by which one is introduced to his life, writing, and thought. On the other hand, for those already knowledgeable about the man, especially those who already respect him, the book should certainly enhance that knowledge and respect.

A large-format book (worthy of a coffee table), it contains all sorts of photographs, letters, quotes, and ephemera relating to Albert Camus. It begins with a photo of the farm in Algeria where he was born, a copy of his birth certificate, and a picture of Albert, not yet one year old, when his father went off to fight in the Great War (he was killed within a month). One of the last photographs is the car, wrapped around a tree, in which Camus and his good friend Michel Gallimard were killed; the very last photograph is a wonderful one of Camus in a sunny café with his arm draped around the shoulder of Gallimard. In between, there are photographs of Camus in his native Algeria, at "Combat", with his wife Francine and his children Catherine and Jean, in the theater in connection with the numerous plays he wrote and/or directed, in Stockholm receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature, etc. There also are photographs of friends and a few historical ones that help set context. In addition, there are numerous copies of original documents, from letters to and from Camus to newspaper articles to book jacket covers to even an Algerian lottery ticket bought by Camus and his wife. And on most pages there are one or more excerpts from the writings of Camus that relate in some manner to the images; most of these excerpts are from his Notebooks or diaries or lesser-known writings, as opposed to the works for which he is best known.

The book is somewhat cluttered, perhaps inevitably given its scrapbook-like nature. Even so, some sort of overarching expository narrative about Camus would have been possible and helpful. As it is, the photographs, excerpts, and quotes pop up rather haphazardly, albeit (roughly) chronologically.

Nonetheless, there are many gems amidst the hodgepodge. Among the photographs, for example, is one from 1944 of a group of twelve people assembled in Pablo Picasso's studio for a reading of a play written by Picasso and directed by Camus, including Picasso, Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir. Notable among the quoted excerpts is this one relating to "The Stranger" from a letter Camus wrote in 1954: "['The Stranger'] is neither realism nor fantasy. I see it rather as a myth in the form of a person, but deeply rooted in the physicality and intensity of everyday life. People have tried to see in it a new kind of anti-morality, which is utterly wrong." I also was struck by the following: "Faced with the world as it is, I simply do not want to lie or be lied to."

As an account of Camus's life, however, there are gaps and there are distortions. One example revolves around Camus's inveterate womanizing, which is barely hinted at. There are many photographs of Camus and the Spanish actress Maria Casarès, but no mention of the fact that they maintained a sixteen-year affair. There is a quote from another actress, Catherine Sellers -- "He was not a seducer, he was a seductive man, which is not the same thing at all" -- that elides the fact that she appeared in his bed as well as in his plays. One photograph of Camus and his attractive wife Francine bears the caption "Francine and Albert supported and stood by each other throughout their lives" -- a tad disingenuous given that Francine was so unhinged by Camus's repeated infidelities that she twice attempted suicide. Of course, the person most responsible for ALBERT CAMUS: SOLITUDE & SOLIDARITY is Catherine Camus, daughter of Albert and Francine, and it is understandable that she would gloss over her parents' troubles. But even beyond that, the book carries with it a whiff of hagiography.

Universal existentialist

This French existentialist writer left behind an outstanding collection of books and essays, published and (at the time of his death at the age of 46 in 1950), unpublished. 'Albert Camus: Solitude & Solidarity' is a pictorial biography by Catherine Camus, his daughter from his marriage to Francine. It is a book of extreme elegance, and evokes nostalgia for Camus fans because it contains so many photographs of Camus in all his activities, writing, contemplation, and play. It also contains photographs of letters and notes handwritten as well as typewritten by Camus. Every photograph is described in detail by Catherine Camus. Does Camus inspire? 'No one can really die in peace if he has not done all he can to help others live', he wrote. Yet we don't carry this into action often enough, thus illuminating Camus' pessimistic outlook. Even before the middle of the twentieth century he observed that '[I]t is no longer enough being just and generous that makes us. It is being successful.' Unfortunately, too many people take that as an exhortation and fail to see it as a lamentation.

Boring!

This book has little to recommend it in my opinion.

He needs an editor--badly. It has a multiplicity of typos, which I find distracting. He defines jargon with more jargon. He cites his own work more than anyone else's. It's information-like but not really informative. When I finish reading a chapter, I don't feel like I've gotten one solid idea out of it. [Unfortunately I have to read it for a class I'm taking.]

The design of the book adds to its lack of readability.

The stories at the beginning of each chapter are interesting but he didn't write them.

My advice: Save your time and money. Approach management from the standpoint of commonsense and treat your employees the way you would want to be treated.

The term Technology-Intensive organizations is quite vague as it is. The Kindle copy works like a charm though preventing me from having to carry around my books all the time. I also made an A in my class! Can't Complain.

Mislead

The book is one of unique taste. I don't think it was bad, just I'm not interested in Night elves. I bought this book because I thought it will be about the guy on the cover Varian. When in fact more than seventy percent of it is about Night elves and their mystery assassin. If I wasn't such a Varian fan I'll give this a book a thumb down. The book title said wolfheart, so you expect to see most of the book talk about worgens and Varian but it did not. The assassin killing highborne should have been side story at best not the main piece. If the worgen and King varian plot switch places with the night elf and the assassin plot it would be a whole new story. I meant the book should be called Jarod's journey not wolfheart because it barely dealt with the subject.I'm just saying, if you want to buy this book to know more about Varian or the worgens don't. Just read wiki page. If you want to know more about the night elfs then go and buy it.I insist, the title though is misleading as hell

Great Warcraft book, don't hesitate to buy!

As an avid fan of the Warcraft series and lore, I found this book great. The story and action were detailed but doesnt drag on. The action sequences are epic and the storyline itself is well written.

Overall the book is written pretty well except for some minor pet peeves that I have.

Heres some information for you Knaak, if an object is fired from a bow, its called an arrow, if its fired from a crossbolt THEN you can call it a bolt......

But seriously, check this book out. Its a good read.

Great WoW Novell; Must Read for Alliance Players

Okay, I have to admit this book surprised me. I went in expecting Knaak to be his usual self. While I'm not among his legion of haters, I will admit that Golden is usually the superior writer. Not this time. Richard Knaak has outdone himself, taking the characters of Tyrande, Malfurion, Varian, and Maiev and bringing them to live with an interesting story about acceptance, both of others and oneself.

First, I want to address the complaints about "bland characterizations." I'm often wondering if I read the same book as some other people. Yes, Varian Wrynn does start off his usual, obstinate, annoying self. But one of the plots of this book is deconstructing that, and moving Varian past his "King/Gladiator" dichotomy and making him one whole, balanced person again.

Tyrande is a bit sticker question. In World of Warcraft, the character has done remarkably little, so her only "in-game" characterization comes from Warcraft III, where she was a bloodthirsty, borderline racial supremacist who had no qualms murdering her own people if they got in her way. In other words, she was a lot like Maiev. Does Knaak portray her differently? Yes. he treats her a High Priestess. Someone's who believes in faith and hope, and thinks carefully before acting. I personally find this characterization vastly more endearing than the one from WCIII, who I didn't care if she lived or died. To each their own. As for accusations that she just sits there, that again, is overlooking her role in the conference, and her own (admittedly short) fight scenes.

Okay, back to the review. If you loathe Knaak's style, this book probably won't change your mind. But if you've been on the fence, or merely didn't like his own author-created characters, "Wolfheart" may just change your mind.

For Alliance fans, this book gives the faction a much needed boost of morale. In the game itself, the Alliance has taken the short end of the stick in regards to the storyline. By the third act, Varian Wrynn has finally mastered his rage and (some of) his prejudices, and leads the Alliance to it's first major victory in the face of the new Horde Blitzkrieg.

My other reservation is for new readers. If you're not already familiar with the Warcraft world, you'll be a bit lost by what's going on. This book is *not* a jumping on point for those not already familiar with Warcraft lore. Try "Rise of the Horde" or "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King" instead.

If you are looking for a book that you can enjoy reading with your children, this is it. Introduction to Land of Zorathustra and all the characters is so descriptive, you can actually picture yourself there. Fast moving plot kept my interest from start to finish. This is the first of a trilogy, can't wait for Part II.

Graphs and charts illustrate key points, in addition to a useful glossary. But the shark theme gets old quickly and makes otherwise sound advice appear gimmicky.
