Just one small drawback for non american =>>> examples are using imperial and not metric, when will our American friends catch up ? ;-D

Great book for learning AutoCAD from scratch. Went through the first couple chapters to get me started and then just found what I needed from there. Was able to create 3D solids in about 2 hours using this book. Gave only 4 stars because the Website did not make downloading the examples easy.

I just finished with my FIRST read-through of this inspiring book. I know Jason says (I feel comfortable calling the author by his first name because after after reading, I kinda consider him a friend) to go through the book chapter by chapter, but it is written with such a fun, engaging, personal voice that I couldn't stop! My book has a ton of dog-ears that I marked while reading to take a more in-depth look at those topics in my following read-thoughs. I'm looking forward to getting down to business & taking full advantage of the downloadable content provided for each chapter and topic.

This book is for the everyday Etsian that doesn't have any real professional business experience. In Art School, they teach you all the basics of creating art, but no real-life skills to market, sell, and make a living from the art that you create. I've been looking for a practical resource that teaches the basics of business (financial, marketing, writing a business model) but that relates directly to owning a crafty business. The author takes some pretty complicated business topics & breaks them down into bite-sized nuggets that are super easy to digest!

I've been (trying) to sell on Etsy for about 3 years on-and-off. I've done... okay, but not nearly as well as I'd hope to do. I'm not ready to give up & this book has given me a kick in the butt to take some of the tips & tricks and apply them to my business to help it grow.

Highly Recommended From a Business Coach

This book is essential if you want your Etsy shop to thrive. I love it and as a business coach for mompreneurs I will forever recommend this book to all starting businesses. It is a rare find and not filled with fluff like a lot of business books. The author is an actual CPA too so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to taxes. No more guessing on that. Thank goodness.

Good for serious etsy businessmen, but not for occasional etsy users

I am a new seller on etsy and after seeing all of the good reviews of this book, I decided to buy it.

Etsy-preneurship is definitely helpful, but I feel like it skimmed many topics (understandable to some extent, there are whole books written on marketing alone). I also did not find the "motivational" talk useful - writing down the idea behind your business, where you are going with it, etc. I would prefer more practical tips, which come towards the end of the book. In addition, the downloadable spreadsheets were something I can definitely live without, but others might like this feature.

That being said, if you are looking for an easy into to accounting/bookkeeping for etsy, this is a great book for you. In layman's terms Mr. Malinak describes the details of tax laws and other things one needs to know. This book is geared towards people trying to make a living on etsy, so I would NOT recommend it for people like me who have a full-time job and dabble on etsy in their free time.

400 pages gone in two evenings.

If I wouldn't have started to halucinate at 2am from being so tired after reading for 8 hours, I would have read this entire book through in one sitting. The book isn't overly technical yet is a huge eye opener for anyone who isn't intimately familiar with the details of Kevin Mitnick as the most wanted hacker of the 90's. If you have a moderate interest in computing, you'll encounter many jaw dropping moments in reaction to the clever, often brazen and sometimes paranoid escapades captured in the book. Towards the 3/4 mark in the book, the story gets a bit drawn out, but was completely well worth the read.

Old Game, New Tools

When it comes to true crime, I'm pretty squeamish. Nothing violent, please. Clever and devious are what I'm looking for. Frank Abagnale's Catch Me If You Can: The True Story of a Real Fake is one of the best, and it's hard not to compare any subsequent caper story with it.

Ghost in the Wires doesn't reach the level of audacity of Catch Me if You Can - impersonating technicians over the phone doesn't rise to the sheer nerve of a teenager impersonating an airline pilot or a doctor, as Abagnale did, and getting away with it. But Ghost in the Wires goes well beyond the adolescent bragfest of phone hacks that it could have been.

I think this is largely due to the co-writer, William L. Simon. Kevin Mitnick describes in his acknowledgments, how he and Simon argued over how detailed and technical the book should be, and apparently Simon prevailed. There's enough detail to explain how the scams were possible, but not so specific as to send the non-programmer into a hexadecimal stupor.

Another big plus is that many of the hacks depended as much on what Mitnick calls "social engineering" as on specialist knowledge. Unlike the stereotypical computer nerd, Mitnick was as comfortable and proficient at schmoozing people as he was writing code - he could talk his way into places that were restricted and convince people he was entitled to classified information. These were scams anyone can understand.

Mitnick also succeeds at not crossing the line from confident to insufferable, which is another pitfall of true crime tell-alls. Perhaps we can once again thank William Simon for this achievement.

I expected to skim this 400-page book but ended up reading every word. Mitnick was unbelievably audacious, and he says he never profited from his exploits. Knowing the risks (especially after he had already spent an unpleasant stretch in jail), how could he continue to risk getting caught again? He claims he was addicted to hacking, and while that seemed to me a sorry excuse for criminal behavior, it started to seem like the only possible explanation.

Whatever Mitnick's reasons, Ghost in the Wires is as much fun to read as any summer thriller.

The Highest Adventure Possible for any Security Professional

A fascination with hacking goes back pretty far for me (I'm an old bat). I loved my experiences reading about Kevin Mitnick, even when he made the papers while on the go. The papers were full of hyperbole even then. I knew to reserve my excitement and hold out for Kevin's own words. My patience is rewarded with this book.

I can't help but enjoy reading about someone who has the adept social engineering of a film noir gumshoe, or the undercover detective, who applied it growing up and getting into trouble. Like Kevin, I knew The Three Days of the Condor. I learned it was a favorite of his, and I clung to this fact which fell through the sieve of newspaper myth. Free Kevin!

Now read Kevin's story, where you'll find enough detail to keep any heart racing. Whether or not you have enough awareness for some of the bits, or rely on the plain language, the story can strike sheer terror in the hearts of those who don't know much of anything about bits and bytes. A dictionary of the sects and divisions within Islam.

Written by a 12th century Muslim theologian this book was intended to give his fellow theologians a clear concise dictionary of the early to his time theological sects within Islam.

The book covers the major three Islamic groups the Sunni, Shia and Khawarij and then the sub groups that exist amongst them. The author provides the reader with a brief account of how the sect came into being, the founder of the sect and its teachings.

Of particular interest to the reader will be the authors examination of the beliefs of the Mutazila and its various sub groups, the Jahmiyya, the Asharites and the various sub groups of the Shia.

The book may be a little too much to consume for the casual reader or the beginner in the study of Islam but for someone who wishes to study Islam in depth then this book is invaluable as it will give the reader an understanding of the theological divisions within Islam and how they developed. It will give the reader an understanding of for example, the differences between a Shia and Sunni, when Muslims refer to a group as having 'Jahmiyya' beliefs just what that is, why even amongst Shia there are massive theological differences.

Shahrastani was a man of his time. A committed Sunni Muslim (which some may argue may cloud some of his views he presents in his book) He taught at the great Nizamiyye and engaged in debates with probably the largest and greatest theological threat to Sunni Islam at the time the Ismailis. The main fault with the book is that it is so short and for the price it may be worth shopping around.

Other than that, a first class book and one well worth buying.

This is an encyclopedic work classifying religions and sects and it shows how Christians of the time were being perceived for instance, hence the deprecating view of Christian theology.
