Well worth a read!

Very cool book, I don't have a whole lot of yard space and I wanted to play with the idea of gardening indoors. I also didn't like the idea of moving a lot of soil around inside, so I was looking for some alternatives. Hydroponic gardening allows you to skip the dirt and use water instead. So if you have poor soil quality in your area you can still plant without the limitations. This book with help you get started so you can start your own Hydroponic garden, This would also make a great project to do with kids. Highly recommended.

I love gardening!

My husband is into hydroponics. In fact, he already set-up a drip system gardening in our house and I’m proud to say that we were able to harvest lettuce. This book is very helpful especially for beginners who want to give hydroponics’ a try. No big budget and space needed. By growing your own vegetables, fruits and herbs you are assured that what you are eating are rich in minerals and nutrients. Aside from the history and meaning of hydroponics, the book gives you the benefits of setting up hydroponics at your own home. You just have to follow the simple set-up guide stated in the book. Since we’ve tried growing lettuce in our garden, this time we will try to grow herbs like tomatoes, rosemary and basil. I’m looking forward to harvesting the fruits.

Great Resource for this mysterious brew

Sours are the oldest type of beer, before commercial technology allowed us to produce the clean, quick, and drinkable beers we all enjoy today. But to drink a well done sour is to take one back to our ancestors. Not too mention the research that supports the neurological benefits of lactobacillicus- (see Radiolab episode "Guts")

This book goes a long way to demystify the process. It isn't as superficial as some of the other style series books. But you won't be able to ever master a style this ancient without the guidance of a mentor, something you won't find online or in a book.

nothing short of fantastic

I can't believe the amount of information in this book. It is so incredibly detailed, I can't believe that it didn't take a lifetime to accumulate this. this is a must have, not must read, for any brewer, home or pro, that is at all interested in beer with wild yeast. I got a little bored with the listing of breweries and what they do, etc. I can absolutely see how this would round out, what would otherwise be a reference or text book. I was simply looking for practical and well founded knowledge about brett, lacto, pedio, etc. THIS IS IT, take my word for it. I was simply blown away at several points during this read. As an example the author suggests that you could add brett, pedio and other cultured yeasts on a schedule that was based on their life cycles found in a spontaneously fermented lambic. Fantastic idea. I can't wait to try this. This book is packed full of useful, practical info on wild yeast.

This book has made me crave more info on the subject (although I don't at all expect anything to surpass or even rival the info in this book), and guess what, there isn't anything, not currently in print anyway. this is your book on wild yeast, accept no subsitutes.

I hadn't brewed at all when I purchased this book, but I was very curious, with all the hoopla about sanitation and temperature control, how humans managed to brew anything for the last thousands of years without bleach and refrigeration and you name it. This book doesn't necessarily answer all of that, but it is incredibly informative about Belgium lambics and Flanders beers. This is a 'how it's done' book not a story-telling travel through the region tasting beers with colorful characters, nonetheless I found it fascinating! A little repetitive in places which didn't bother me since I knew so little about these beers and the means of creating them. And since the author appears to hail from the U.S. of A. he is familiar with and writes about commercial lambics on this side of the pond. I loved the section on barrels. And for those of us who want to give a lambic or a Flanders beer a go, there are a few recipes included. A nice, chunky bibliography is in the back.

This is a great collections of short stories from surgeons and medical students who are in different places in terms of their careers and life experiences. I think it will give readers a pretty good idea of what's involved in becoming a surgeon/medical professional and also what the potential costs are to balancing work and a personal life in such a competitive field. I got this book for my college-aged daughter who has mentioned an interest in medicine. Part of me wants to encourage her but, another part of me wants to protect her from what I know will be a very stressful and difficult road to travel. As someone who has worked in healthcare for almost 30 years, I've met surgeons from all walks of life and I know, all too well, how all-consuming medicine can be. I wanted my daughter to hear a variety of perspectives in the hopes she might see herself somewhere amongst the many voices in this book. Thank you, Dr. John, for putting this collection of stories together.

Very informative. I recently became an accounting tutor and this is perfect to brush up on some accounting topics I haven't studied in a few years (Yes, funny. An accounting tutor ordering an accounting for dummies book). But it refreshes my memory and includes a lot of content for not an expensive price tag. Worth the buy!

A book to refer back to again and again!

I can not say enough positive things about this outstanding book. As a child therapist, who works with many children in the foster care system and increasing numbers of adopted children, Theraplay has become the single most important tool in my repertoire of therapy modalities. It is very exciting to find a method of working with children that offers practical and impactful strategies to try, which are very different from what you may already be doing. I have also attended the Theraplay trainings at the Theraplay Institute in Chicago and am near completion of the Theraplay Certification process. Even if I am not using Theraplay with a particular child, the foundation and understanding of attachment that this model has given me pervade my work. Parents of children that I am using Theraplay with often report dramatic progress in their child's behavior and attachment to them in a short period of time. One father of an internationally adopted child that I am using Theraplay with said it best. He stated, "We finally came to realize that our child was not going to be able to fully benefit from all the supportive services we were taking him to (including occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy) until he was able to form an attachment with us. Theraplay has allowed that attachment to form and we are now seeing much more progress in other areas of development."
The model of using parents as co-therapists, as presented in the book, is very empowering to parents and the parents I use Theraplay with have many positive comments to say about this. One foster/adoptive mother recently told me she thinks that every foster or adoptive parent should be required to learn Theraplay. She adds "It has given me a whole new understanding of my adopted children and their needs."
Theraplay is not only useful for children with attachment and bonding difficulties, but I have found it particularly useful for children diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. This is a comprehensive book that you will refer back to again and again.

Great book for foster parents

The book is written for professionals (social workers/psychologists) but as a foster parent I found the book well laid out and full of great, practical activities to foster bonding. The vignettes were enlightening and reaffirmed the importance of that special attachment.

This book is a very comprehensive introduction to hydrology. Designed primarily to serve as an undergraduate text, the book discusses virtually every aspect of hydrology.
