Dragons Dragons and more Dragons

This the third instalment in the Dragons Down Under series and is a wonderfully funny romp through intrigue mayhem and romance. The characters are well written and the descriptions well thought out to give a reality to them both as dragon and human.

The intrigue starts in the Dragon realm with arguments as to how to deal with events that came to pass in the previous two books which lends to a great continuation of the series. This leads to some funny interaction between the two dragons concerned in this story, the arrival of Amber, the beginning of the intrigue and mayhem and then the introduction of all the previous characters that were in the other books of this series giving a great sense of continuation from the very first two books that began all this. The very first were the introduction of the Moonshadow agency people who continue to visit in each story which in turn help to make it a very rich world to visit for some great fun, and some very sexy Dragons.

The third book in the Dragon Down Under series, follows two dragons who come from the dragon realm to check on earth women and try to understand if they would be make good mates, because there aren't enough mates in their realm, Brimstone and Slade are on a fact finding mission for one month. Slade is delighted to see so many beautiful women to seduce. Brimstone hates it and just wants to go back to fighting.

Angela is on vacation with her lackluster fiancé and she's finally tired of his put downs about her weight and her love of writing even though it paid for their trip. When she dumps him, she is shocked when he turns on her and equally shocked and delighted to be saved by a seven foot giant with a snarl on his face.

Brimstone is shocked that the lady he rescues is his mate!

WOW that's quite a Hot,Dangerously Sexy Dragon plus His Mate is an erotic romance writer with meat on her bones and a sassy,funny attitude too. This addition to the series is just as wonderfully written and soooo enjoyable to read. Don't miss out they can be read as a standalone with no cliffhangers but I recommend that you check all of them out. I know I'm looking forward to the next addition as there are plenty of wonderful characters that deserves their own HEA with a true mate that's feisty and brings out the Big Alpha attitude,possessive and hot passionate natures. SO JUST ENJOY Angela Castle and her wonderful creations and steamy storylines.

Batman on Buckingham Palace! Unique and Priceless!

Fathers 4 Justice (F4J) has electrified men's activists, fathers' rights activists, and--let's face it--pretty much everybody else around the world with its spectacular whirlwind of death-defying demonstrations and side-splitting humor. Matt O'Connor is the founder and mad genius behind F4J. I am glad that I was able to meet him and spend a weekend with him at the DC True Equality Conference in July 2007, because his book is as wild, delightful, annoying, and--in the end--indispensable as is the man.

And yet I nearly did not make it past the first fifty pages, filled as they are with O'Connor's braggadocio, irrelevancies, charm, and self-importance. As goes the man, so goes F4J. Ironically, O'Connor is (as I am) afraid of heights, and thus could never have dreamed of carrying out many of his greatest creations. Luckily, he found many co-conspirators bearing different sorts of gifts. Among these is the utterly remarkable Jolly Stanesby (whom I also met in DC), one of the most noted monument-scalers, and truly a man willing to push himself to the edge and well beyond in pursuit of justice.

O'Connor strikes one as, if nothing else, a phenomenally sincere and straight-ahead sort of bloke. The reader feels no reason to disbelieve him when he tells us that the idea to found F4J came to him as he was literally about to end his life by a jump from a bridge, and thus he was in a very concrete way the first person whose life was saved through the organization.

The author's "rules of engagement" are simultaneously delightful and edifying: Keep it simple; make it eye-poppingly theatrical; use ridicule, satire, and subversion; research, research, and research; never lose sight of what you are trying to achieve; and always have at least two backup plans to cover every eventuality.

F4J's virgin campaign saw two rented double-decker buses crammed with more than two hundred Father Christmases stopping by the office of the Lord Chancellor (head of the British legal system) a week before Christmas 2002. One of F4J's next principal escapades took activists to shut down the UK's largest family court to commemorate Father's Day 2003, but only after strategically diverting the authorities with a televised announcement of F4J's supposed plans to protest at CAFCASS, the UK's "family court advisory service." Fascinatingly, later in the story, O'Connor manages to negotiate an agreement with CAFCASS that it will support shared parenting in exchange for F4J steering clear of protests targeting its offices.

The author isn't afraid to show us his organization, warts and all, including numerous planned activities that went awry. One of the most bizarre is when F4J travels to Portugal to try to spring a UK citizen who has been imprisoned there for months. The prisoner, who was wrongly accused of kidnapping his own children, rejects F4J's offers of help! A happy ending later ensued as F4J managed to get him returned to the UK, where he made history in a famous legal case and ended up both reunited with his daughter and converted to F4J's cause.

And then sometimes things simply went wrong. The author provides fascinating, exciting glimpses of protests that go badly, including chases by the police and escapes by activists that would do any action movie proud. At one event, they needed a 50-foot ladder (the largest then available) to scale the Royal Courts and yet one F4J foot soldier turned up with one only 35 feet long. F4J's top Spiderman, David Chick, was regrettably un-savvy in his media interactions, revealing his identity despite stern instructions otherwise and thereby allowing the opposition to dig up dirt from his past.

F4J was, if nothing else, truly a seat-of-the-pants operation. One amazing tale has Matt narrowly saving the life--through improvised yet inspired negotiation--of a monument-scaling protester on whom police have their guns trained. Matt O'Connor has a deep understanding of the immensely important role fathers play in their children's lives and the tragic consequences of their absence, and it motivates him to keep F4J plugging away even after his own personal situation is happily resolved. He provides a helpful list of seven ways to save your family, each accompanied by a full paragraph of explanation: Don't listen to your lawyer; don't go to court; go for shared parenting; don't leave the family home; do mediate; do provide support for your kids; don't denigrate the other parent; and never hate your partner more than you love your kids.

F4J was also plagued throughout its history by a number of other challenges. Activists' availability fluctuated wildly, if understandably, depending on developments in their individual cases. Suicide threats were common and absorbed huge levels of resources. Signs were held upside down at critical moments. Police and newspapers hired infiltrators. Strangers rooted through O'Connor's trash numerous times. He received many threatening phone calls and emails and his home telephone was bugged. F4J leaders stole membership fees, and infighting increased as membership and fame rose. A US junket was aborted with a heavy financial loss after the FBI was basically glued to the F4J members from the moment they left the airport. A return trip to North America was similarly marred by a trusted activist's abrupt failure of nerves and consequent attempt to change F4J's mission.

The humor is, the author notes at one point, a survival mechanism. At the same time, it is absolutely delightful. The condom bomb recipe is priceless, better than Julia Child. And the blow-by-blow replay of an action at York Minster is even better, including as it does the story of O'Connor being taken down in a tackle by two burly priests, followed by the author's `sermon' on father's rights that ends up being heavily applauded by parishioners.

Then there are the unforgettable moments: Batman lands on Buckingham Palace. Tony Blair being hit with a purple bomb in Parliament. And even the end, when trumped-up charges that F4J was plotting to kidnap Tony Blair's son led to the organization being disbanded. It took a lawyer and F4J activist undergoing six weeks imprisonment in a truly heart-wrenching story to resuscitate F4J. And so the story continues, with F4J having launched an effort to inject fathers' issues into the upcoming US presidential elections.

Even for someone who lived in London for a year as I did, the book is likely to prove difficult to follow at times due to its numerous unelaborated references to British places and people. But it repays the effort many times over.

Perhaps the best way to end is by replaying an amusing note combining politics, humor and irony you would never believe if they were in a novel: Scotland Yard has been selling an souvenir that actually commemorates an F4J protest, showing Batman atop Buckingham Palace with the date of the event and the insignia of Scotland Yard's royal protection unit. Like the book, and like the man, unique and priceless!

This humourous and witty book details the up's and down's of the formation of the worldwide fathers rights movement Fathers 4 Justice. Best read though in conjunction with the other book on here about the horror story of an access case that started the F4J movement off, FAMILY COURT HELL by Mark Harris (also available on amazon). Harris was the one that started public protest against the family court's in response to his child access problems, which O'Connor, author of Fathers 4 Justice developed into the international campaign. FAMILY COURT HELL goes inside Harris' real life access case that went to court a [reported] world record 133 times. Buy both, read both, you won't be disappointed.

Ideal as a supplement for school art history and art appreciation curriculums and classes

Readers old and young will enjoy Pamela Geiger Stephen's humorous, lighthearted, but informative approach which combines Jim McNeill's deft illustrations with actual art images from the work of Pablo Picasso. As Picasso's masterworks are presented and explored, the characters in this lively picture book pose open-ended questions that will prompt the reader to make his or her own critical analyses and interpretations of these seminal works of art. Indeed, it's finding out that Picasso's artwork continues to pose answered questions is a major part of the attraction of this unique approach to art instruction for young (and not-so-young!) readers. Also very highly recommended is the Crystal Productions VHS video tape format of Dropping In On Picasso that has Puffer dropping in on Pablo Picasso in an animated approach that combines sequences with details and full-screen images of the artwork. This superbly produced video is accompanied by a guide with suggested activities, making it ideal as a supplement for school art history and art appreciation curriculums and classes.

After meeting the author and illustrator, I bought all of the Dropping in on books for my classroom. The Dropping in on books and videos are delightful and informative. I will buy more to give as gifts.

It works! And, it's not as scary as it seems!

This book has made a HUGE difference in my family! My husband and I were very anti-sleep training, but our 5 month old was becoming a worse and worse sleeper and we were all suffering. After trying a variety of co-sleeping and no-cry methods, I finally decided to read Ferber's book. The science and research in this book convinced me to try it. I learned all about sleep associations and how my son had some that were really making it impossible for him to sleep independently. Ferber gives an analogy that led to my aha moment: Imagine you went to sleep in your bed with the conditions you're used to: same bed, pillow, blanket, lighting, etc, but then woke up on your living room floor. You would be completely confused and would probably find it very difficult to go back to sleep. This is what happens to babies when they are nursed/rocked to sleep and then placed in another environment already asleep--they wake up confused and unable to go back to sleep. Therefore, babies need to learn how to fall asleep on their own in order to get good quality sleep so that when they wake up they aren't confused and having to adjust to new conditions. This principle makes so much sense that I became willing to try letting my son cry for a bit in order to learn how to fall asleep independently.

The first night was pretty hard. My son whimpered for a bit, then cried as if he was going to die for about 15 minutes. We followed Ferber's recommendations of going in to reassure the baby you're still there for him (without picking him up). He stopped crying and had fallen asleep within 20 minutes. He woke up 2 hours later and cried for about 10 minutes, so my husband went in and patted/talked to him. He then slept for about six hours, woke to nurse and went right back to sleep (no tears) for about three more hours. Previously he had been waking constantly throughout the night, sometimes every 30 minutes.

The second night, he cried for ZERO minutes and was asleep within five minutes. He woke up once to nurse, and then slept until seven AM.

The third night, he cried for ZERO minutes, so now I am writing this review to let parents know that this method worked for my family. My husband and I, who previously believed this method was cruel and not something we'd ever try, have come to the realization that those 15 minutes of crying have led to a child (and a mom and dad) who are MUCH more likely to get some decent sleep and be able to function in the daytime. I think we actually did a very good thing for our child!

A few caveats from our experience: we had a solid bedtime routine for at least a month leading up to this (bath, book, songs, nurse to sleep). We moved the nursing session to right before bath, and kept everything else the same except putting him down awake in his crib. I think having this routine established before trying the Ferber techniques led to us only having one evening of crying and such an easy time with the process. Additionally, the second night I put my son in his pajamas and in a Halo swaddle sack (arms out), and it's possible that snug feeling of the swaddle helped him go right to sleep as well.

No more sleepless nights!!

Our second child was 9-months old and still would not sleep through the night. What made this worse is she would only go to sleep (or back to sleep) if she was given a bottle and rocked. Both my husband and I work full-time so we were exhausted. We could not keep waking up with her 3-5 times a night and still function the next day. We were frustrated and had to teach her to sleep, which this book helped us do...in five nights!

Pros:
- Only took 5 nights and she slept through the night
- By 7 nights she was not eating 2-3 bottles a night
- This was not expected, but she is sooo much happier now! Completely different kid now that she's getting adequate sleep!
- Easy read and thorough. The examples make complete sense and I love that it gives exact steps to follow.

Cons:
- Hard to listen to the baby cry with consoling her. We put our video monitor in there so I could watch her and make sure she was okay.
- Our child was stubborn so the first night it took 2.5 hours of crying before she fell asleep. The next night took 1.5 hours. It lessened each night, but prepare for a long night and do it when you don't have anywhere to be the next day because they also have to put themselves back to sleep when they wake up at night...which takes forever!

Overall, it was a tough week, but completely worth it! I would recommend this to anyone. Never once did I feel like I was neglecting my child and we are both so much happier now that we're getting adequate sleep.

Like most parents, the sound of my baby crying is the worst sound in the world. For this reason, I delayed trying the Ferber method even though I knew rocking my 9 month old daughter to sleep every night was probably unwise, especially because she woke up crying multiple times every night. Out of desperation, I tried the Ferber method, exactly as described in this book. It took only three nights before my daughter stopped crying at bedtime. Now, I don't have to spend 30 minutes to an hour rocking her to sleep. She now reliably goes to sleep every night, with no tears, and with a minimum of fuss. She sleeps pretty much through the night every night.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.
